Fitness Week: Namaste Chic

Yesterday was all about looking “Chic in your Sneaks” with a workout look for the cardio queen. Today, we want you to close your eyes, take a deep breath and picture yourself looking extra fierce as you move from “downward dog” to “warrior one”.

The healing benefits of Yoga are countless. A good class will help you build flexibility, strength, and balance, all the while de-stressing. In fact, after having baby number three yoga helped me deal with high anxiety brought on by raging hormones, and I mean raging. Think steam almost coming out of my ears a few times after too many sleepless nights.  It wasn’t pretty and it certainly wasn’t my finest chic moment. Although I didn’t feel like it was totally my fault, it was almost like someone had temporary taken control of my sleep deprived brain. Then I remembered that I had once read that any mental conditions (ha-that sounds a little loco) that may creep up in a minor way prior to having  babies are likely to come on twice as strong after having babies. For many women this is depression or anxiety. For me it is anxiety, and sometimes it is bad. I found the best way to cope with this intense feeling is exercise. It was suggested to me while postpartum that I try doing yoga a couple times a week in addition to some cardio and what a difference. I would feel and act so mellow that even my husband would say, “Who are you and what have you done with my wife?” Compliment?  Not sure, but I was too zen to care.

Now lately, I have fallen off and have struggled making the commitment to attend a class or two each week. So as I write this to you I am re-committing. Now is the perfect time for me, for many of us, to refocus on creating balance within. Things have been a little stressful. Sure it has something to do with having too much to do, too little time… oh and three young kids. But I would like to be a little less on edge and feel more relaxed…without a couple glasses of wine. So if you have never tried Yoga or have fallen out of the routine, why not do this with me and let other MCbJ readers know what it does for you. Remember it is important to find the right class and teacher. I prefer flow classes that are pretty challenging, but we are all different in our needs. Some days you may just want to sit in child’s pose and take a nap.  There are also many studios that have childcare as well, so call around to your local studios and gyms. Then all you need is the perfect yoga outfit and your super chic mat. Lucky for you, MCbJ already has that covered. Namaste. xx

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
