Baby in Bassinet Chic Week: Foodie Fri with Liv Healthy Baby

One of my favorite topics is natural and organic food. I am so tired of food that are loaded with preservatives lining the shelves at some grocery stores. Fortunately, baby food is usually all natural, but the majority of what is out there smells and tastes a little off.

I could never blame my kids for not wanting to eat a store bought jar of mashed peas or spinach…I mean, I could hardly stomach a whiff of the stuff. So I would try to make as much as I could of the good stuff at home, but the reality is that it is hard to find the time. Especially if you have multiple kids and/or work.

Fortunately, for us busy mommies we can still give our little loves delicious and natural foods thanks to companies like Liv Healthy Baby. Owner Alexia George is giving MCbJ readers a glimpse into her world as a mommy, chef and business owner.  Plus she is offering 20% off of your first order of 6 or more baby food jars and an awesome giveaway on Instagram (see below for details). So if you haven’t already, make sure to check us out on Instagram. Happy Baby Foodie Friday! xx

Liv Healthy Baby is an all organic baby food brand that is made fresh on a daily/weekly basis. 2. What was your inspiration behind your company?

My inspiration behind the company was my daughter Liv. When I had to stop breast feeding at 3 months we did not like any of our options available in stores; so I began making Liv’s baby formula from scratch, made up of a variety of ingredients. When it came time for her to start eating again, we did not like anything available at stores and would make all of her food a few times a week and would freeze food so that we always had food available. However, with three kids and the rush of everyday life, it’s not always easy to keep up making puréed baby food in a variety of different fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins. Therefore, we wanted to create a convenient option of baby food that moms and dads will feel like the are giving there baby the best option available.

3. When your baby girl started eating solids what did a typical day of eating look like?

When Liv first started eating, for breakfast I would make her old fashion organic oats and blend them with a little bit of water to get a smooth consistency. She loved when I would add banana or cooked apple puréed into her oatmeal. For dinner, I would do the same with rice and add in carrots or peas. Sweet potato was also a favorite.

4. Now that she is older what are some of your “go-to” meals for her?

Broccoli! Liv loves broccoli. Now that Liv is older I like to always have a 6 ounce jar of cut up broccoli, chicken, and organic gluten free pasta. Sometimes I will season it with a little pinch of pepper for flavor or brown sugar to make it sweet.

5. Would you like to share a favorite recipe?

A great and popular recipe for babies eight months plus is a puréed blend of sweet potato, pear, and a pinch of cinnamon.

6. Any tips for getting little ones to eat vegetables?

I have found that for the older babies little bit of seasoning or a cooked and puréed sweet fruit mixed into cut up vegetables; and for babies new to eating solids, puréed sweet fruit into pureed vegetables works well.

7. What do you love most about being a mom?

I love watching my kids learn and grow. The excitement on their faces when they have learned something new or want to show me something new that they have just learned is priceless.

8. What kind of things do you enjoy doing with Liv?

Liv is a huge animal lover and loves to play outside. It is so fun seeing her around animals and in out door environments such as the beach. She can play for hours in the sand and water. Of course, dance parties around the house and mommy and me shopping days are the best too!

9. How would you describe your “mommy” clothing style? Any favorite items or brands we should know about?

Currently I’m loving Rag & Bone and alice + olivia. Of course, lululemon is the perfect throw-on clothes for the gym or playing and doing errands with the baby.

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
