Mommy Chic: My Nursing Style

Love it or hate it, nursing becomes almost a full time job when you have a new baby. I happen to love it, especially in the beginning. I appreciate the intimate bonding time and my body’s ability to provide everything that my new little being needs to survive at this time. It really is amazing! Now what I don’t enjoy is having to wake up frequently during the night and the strain it can also put on doing anything outside of the home. It is particularly difficult to be a nursing mom with a lot of other things going on if you refuse to nurse in public. I know for many people this is uncomfortable and at times it is for me as well. However, as I am now nursing my fourth child I have found ways to discreetly nurse while still carrying on with life. After all, I am not one to just sit at home. Plus even if I wanted to, between having three other three kids and work it just isn’t going to happen.

Here is what I am wearing right now so that I can not only easily nurse whenever needed, but I can also do it in style. Not to mention everything here is under $100 with a couple as low as $20 since no mom wants to spend a lot on clothes that could be stained at any mommy moment:) xx

Button down dresses and tops become a staple for me at this time. I rarely nurse alone as there is usually a kid or three keeping me company. At first all the kids are fascinated then it becomes old news.

This MCbJ top makes nursing in public a breeze. Shown below as both a tank top and as a poncho.  jess jess2 Shop MCbJ Marina Top in Black

I often use scarves as a way to nurse in public. In fact, I bet you can barely notice I am nursing my babe while being interviewed at Tiny Frenchy. Just look for a little head silhouette in picture two.

This was my first night out after having the baby. Not one that likes to nurse while at a dinner table (not sure who does??), but there are times it is necessary. Fortunately we were able to sit at a table tucked away in the corner and when I needed to nurse her I was able to drape her blanket across me. I am doubtful anyone even noticed.  jess3 Free People Floral Print Dress (sold out; love this one here)

Lastly, I love these bralettes (see link below) whether I am nursing or not. I have them in white, nude & black. I am wearing one in every photo and they truly make nursing easy. I even sleep in them.

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
