Tropical Chic: Editor’s Picks

Every year we head to Kauai as a family. We have fallen in love with this quaint little island and all of its awe-inspiring beauty. When it comes to packing it is pretty simple for me – Days are spent in swimsuits and the nights in sundresses. I pack very little makeup and a few “beachy” accessories. For me it is most important to have a chic hat that offers great sun protection, sandals that won’t get destroyed by water, fabulous light-weight sunnies, and a soft coverup. I also make sure to bring suits that are “kid friendly”. Trust me, you want to avoid side-tie bottoms when around young kids ( I learned that the hard way!) or just make sure to double knot them. A one-piece swimsuit is also a very stylish and practical way to go when you will be spending a lot of time playing in the water with kids.

I also like to bring my sunscreen because you never know if your destination will carry your favorite brand, and not to mention some hotels charge an arm and a leg for sunscreen! I have found that I am better off packing it. Just be sure to put it in a large Ziploc bag in case there is an explosion. Lastly, make sure to have an excellent book. I do not find a lot time for reading on a family vacation, but I just like knowing it is there in the event that I have a few rare minutes to myself. Fortunately, we take this trip with my parents so this just may happen! Thank you God for grandparents…now if only they were on our same flight over. I am not looking forward to a long flight with young kids, but it does make that first Mai Tai taste all the sweeter. Aloha! xx

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
