Seeing as I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world (or at least I believe so) and since this is Travel Chic Week, I simply must share some of my favorite things to do with the family in Newport Beach.
1. Balboa Island and the Fun Zone: What’s not to love about this charming little island. The main street is lined with quaint stores and restaurants. The kids always love a visit to the Dad’s Donuts for a sweet treat or Balboa Candy for salt-water taffy. The island is beautiful to walk around and one of my favorite places to get exercise. On Christmas, walking the island to see all the lights on the houses is a must.
For a more adventurous day, take the ferry across the bay to the Balboa Fun Zone. It transports people, bikes and cars. We usually park near the ferry and go across on foot. Once there play in the arcade, take a ride on the Ferris Wheel and try not to let the shark throw you off. Lunch at Pizza Pete’s is a family favorite.
2. Fashion Island: This is an outdoor mall that has plenty to see and do with children. Not to mention primo shopping for mom. Take your kiddos to look at the fishpond, water fountains, and pet store. You can also take a ride on the trolley and grab lunch in the food court. They are other excellent restaurant options that we sometimes brave with the kiddos, but something about a food court makes my kids excited. Finish your afternoon with frozen yogurt or gelato. If you are still looking for something to do, there are two great theaters with the latest movies.
3. Duffy ride around the Bay: Our family loves to take the Duffy out for a cruise around the bay. Bring a cheese plate, wine and juice to make everyone happy. We also always bring a Bluetooth speaker and fun playlist. Make sure to have life jackets for the kiddos and sometimes we bring their fishing poles. When the troops start to get restless, pull up to a public boat parking dock and grab a bite to eat. Blue Water Grill and Buddha’s Favorite Sushi are two of our go-to’s.
4. The Beach: Of course… this is the city of Newport “Beach”. We are a family of ocean lovers and we spend a lot of time there. One place to visit is the Peninsula. It is one long, beautiful beach – stretching 70 plus blocks. To be near food and recreation, park at either the Newport Beach Pier or Balboa Pier. Here you can find just about any rental item needed- bikes, boogie boards, surfboards, wetsuits, etc… Take a cruise along the boardwalk or post up at the beach. Either way, if you get a day when the sun in shining you will be in pure paradise. I love Newport in the summer! xx
with love,
