Although it isn’t officially summer, it feels like it is. The sun is out, the kids are restless and so am I. I find myself eagerly awaiting the start of summer vacation as though I am a kid too. Then I am hit with the harsh reality that I have a business to run and three young kids… I guess this means I don’t get to hang out at the pool or beach with my friends every day.
Not to mention when I do head to the beach or pool with one or more of my darlings, I spend most of my time acting as a human floating device or sand castle architect and not reading a fashion magazine. So, clearly it is not MY summer vacation.
However, it some ways does still feel like my vacation as well. Not as many obligations, no homework and no rushing out the door each morning. Best of all, I have noticed that when the schedule is more relaxed that the whining tends to decrease. Or maybe it’s the Vitamin D from the sun. Either way, I will take it!
I love watching my kiddos in a carefree state splashing around in the water or even just hanging out in their pj’s all morning. And even though us mommies can’t go back all the way to this carefree state, it can be contagious.
I have found it to be true that the world is a wonderful place when looking at it through the eyes of a child. So this summer I am going to slow down too. I am going to allow myself to be a little more carefree. I will do my best to enjoy this time with my kids, for in the blink of an eye they will be back in school, or even scarier, there will come a day that they won’t be spending their summer days with me. Then I will wish I could be their human flotation device.
Until then I have many a summer to live vicariously through my kiddos… and still dress them summer chic. xx
