Sleep Chic Week: J’adore

Ahhh Sleep… we all love it, we all want it, but when you have young kids or babies do we actually get our recommended 9 hours?

Part of this depends on when you go to bed…

Last week a miracle happened. Everyone slept until 7am. With a 6 year old, 3 year old and 1 year old this rarely happens. At least one will get up between 5:45am and 6:30am. Of which makes me a very cranky mommy that heads quickly to my espresso machine. I wish I could say cheerfully that I am a morning person, and believe me I have tried. I even did the whole “power of positive thinking” thing where I willed myself to become one. I had declared enthusiastically to the hubby that I was now a  “morning person.”

My plan was to go to bed earlier, wake up before the kids, work out and then cheerfully make everyone breakfast. This happened once… Pathetic, I know. But this is not my fault! Really! It is simply that my internal body clock will not allow me to function well before 8am. And this same body clock also keeps me up until at least 11pm. Now I know what you are thinking, and no it is not “The Real Houswives.” It is my body clock! Or… maybe a little of each.

However, staying up this late wouldn’t be an issue if I could just sleep until 8am, but I cannot seem to get this through my little darling’s heads. Without fail there is someone that channels their inner rooster and gets up with the sun regardless of the day. Don’t they get it that weekends are for sleeping in? Plus, I quickly learned that letting them stay up later in hope that they would in turn sleep later  usually just backfires. Instead I end up with tired and cranky kids which certainly makes a head ache even worse.

So I have just had to accept that a blissful 9 hours of sleep will only happen on vacation without kiddos, or once they are older when I will undoubtedly be dragging them out of bed. The frightening thing about this is that by this point I could have become a “morning person.” Wouldn’t that be cruelly ironic? Or perhaps I will be too cheerful to care.

… And speaking of cheerful, while MCbJ can’t guarantee you more sleep, we can bring you joy in the way of comfy, chic sleepwear. I don’t know about you, but my favorite part of the day is getting in my comfy pj’s, robe, and slippers… ahhh dreaming about it already. However, this doesn’t mean go frumpy and not fabulous.  So throw out the old boxers and ratty t-shirt (sooo high school) and replace it with something “pretty.”  There is no reason you shouldn’t look chic and feel comfy all at once. In fact, you may be tempted to spend the day this way… here’s to wishful thinking. 🙂 xx

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
