Site Chic Week: Foodie Friday

Ok, we showed you our favorite online sites for mommy’s fashion and fitness, as well as kids and baby clothes. Today lets talk about our other favorite subject: FOOD. Yes, we love our food here at MCbJ, and we love it even more when we find delicious recipes that are easy and fast. This seems to be a common theme in a busy mommy’s life, but when you have little ones to attend to it really is hard to devote a lot of time to their meals. I, personally, have found this challenging since I want my children to eat a diet that is all natural (most of the time… I am also a realist), and seeing as this is the case I am always grateful to find a new recipe or food tip to try on a trusted site. Most sites have ratings and comments, which I find so helpful since I am not really into the whole “try it once first thing”. I mean, I am just happy to find the time to cook a good homemade meal, let along try it out first. I know most of you mommies that are not professional chefs feel me on this. And if you do then you will surely love these sites. Happy Foodie Friday! xx

inpraiseofleftovers We’ve stumbled across In Praise of Leftovers a while back when we were searching for a good banana muffin recipe.  The muffins turned out far better than we had expected and this blog became one of our sources to rely on for delicious recipes and inspirations.  Based in Seattle, WA, Sarah of In Praise of Leftovers is all about making good food.  There’s no fancy techniques or ingredients where you have to google it before you even get to the cooking part.  You’ll be able to find most of the ingredients in your fridge and even if you do have to run out to grab a couple of things, you’ll be able to find them at your local grocery store.  We love this blog because it seems as if Sarah is our next door neighbor – she seems approachable and down to earth.  And we feel the same way about her food.
Try her Roasted Onion Guacamole and Spicy Watermelon and Feta Salad.  You’ll thank us (and Sarah) later.

simplebites The winner of Saveur‘s Best Kids’ Cooking Blog in 2013, Simple Bites is all about cooking with fresh (meaning unprocessed), and seasonal ingredients for the family. The blog is filled with beautiful photos and easy to follow step-by-step instructions. We’ve tried this quick appetizer recipe for a small dinner party and everyone loved it! They were the perfect bite-sized appetizers that took no longer than 20 minutes.  Also, since strawberries are in season, try making Strawberry Caramel Sauce . One of MCbJ’s staff made a batch of this addictive sauce and gave it as gifts.  It’s super easy to make and beyond good drizzled over vanilla ice cream.  Alright, we have to take a quick ice cream break now…

mels We came across Mel’s Kitchen Cafe when a recipe called for buttermilk and that was the only ingredient missing for us to make the perfect buttermilk cheddar biscuits. Feeling lazy to run to the grocery store, we googled “buttermilk substitute” and Mel at Mel’s Kitchen Cafe came to the rescue (here’s her tip).  One of the reasons why we are a huge fan of this blog is that she offers many cooking and kitchen tips.  She even has put menu plans together so you can get a jump-start on that dinner party you’ve been planning for weeks.  And check out Mel’s “Dinner in a Pinch” menu plans, a time-saver for busy mommies and dads!

sproutedkitchen If you already follow the blog and own a copy of this book, you probably know why we love Sprouted Kitchen.  We eat with our eyes first and Sara and Hugh Forte definitely are well aware of that.  I mean, the photography is GORGEOUS.  And you can tell just by looking at the photos that Sara is all about clean eating.  She always uses natural and seasonal ingredients that highlight her wholesome recipes.  We’ve tried the Salmon Skewers with Cucumber Yogurt Sauce (the only thing we did differently was we served them filet style instead of putting them on skewers) and it was one of the best salmon recipes we’ve tried so far!  The yogurt sauce made this dish even more light and refreshing, it was a perfect meal to serve with quinoa and arugula salad.  Also, if you have some spare time try making some Cherry Nut Granola. Nothing beats a homemade granola, right? Perfect for breakfast and snack to munch on throughout the day.

greenkitchen If you’re a vegetarian or a veggie enthusiast, this blog is for you. Green Kitchen Stories is filled with simple recipes that make you feel healthy just by looking at the photos. And talking about photos, they are B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L.  Even if you are not a vegetarian you’ll quickly become a fan of this blog just for the images alone.  The blog is entertaining because not only do they share amazing recipes, they also tell a story about who they are and what they’re up to in the posts.  We’ve tried the Blueberry Coconut Super Smoothie and it was so easy to make and made a satisfying breakfast on the go.  And this Potato Pizza with Goat Cheese was muy delicioso we did not want to share!  Pick up a copy of the book here for healthy and tasty recipes that will please the whole family.

with love,

MCbJ

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
