Ahoy friends!

We’re talkin’ nautical things this week on MCbJ. Living in a boating/harbor/yacht town, we are surrounded by nautical decor items galore. My taste prefers the more subtle and classic nautical look: white walls, painted woods, warm wood accents, repurposed yacht rope used as railing, and, yes, the occasional boat model OR oars (but not both in the same room!).

As a great starting point, look no further than my most favorite design firm that has mastered the subtle nautical look:  Muskoka Living.  Muskoka is based in Canada and creates wonderful maritime-inspired design. Can we all get a shout out for those anchor hooks in the entry….awesome!

Some items to decorate with are below.  Ebay has a large array of model boats (PS: Don’t forget about the measurements!).  f you have time and patience (or vice versa), check out the consignment shops in our area, or any coastal town, for unique and vintage nautical treasures. And Bacekamp is my favorite place to go to find underwater art. Bacekamp prints its photographs on archival fine art paper so it changes the look and appears more like art than a photograph, plus each photograph is taken during the photographer’s scuba adventures.

Philanthropy

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
