MCbJ: When did you become a merchandiser for Chloe and Isabel and what inspired you to do so?
MC: It was about 2 months ago that I interviewed with Chloe + Isabel and was hired as a merchandiser. The question that I have been asked the most is: why pursue building an at home business at this stage of my life with having a hubby who is busy and 3 kids? I say, why not? My family inspire me to want to accomplish personal goals. Owning a business is a lot of work but knowing that these four are right by my side cheering me on is such a great feeling.

MCbJ: You have three children. Has it been difficult juggling work and being an available mom?
MC: Juggling is something you have to learn and master if you are going to be a working mom.  Being able to set my hours plays a huge role.  Knowing that I am available for car pool, class parties and whatever comes up is a huge relief.   Also, making sure that I have a reliable childcare plan is key – that way, I can meet with clients one-on-one if needed.  So many of my clients are moms; therefore, it’s easy to just invite them to come to my house and help with picking out pieces that they are needing.  These appointments can easily turn into a play date for the kids and shopping time for mom.  Trying to involve the kids in my business is extremely important to me.  I never want them to think that my business is something that takes me away from them but that it’s something that can help create a good work ethic and be a model as both mom and entrepreneur.

MCbJ: What advice do you have for new moms with dreams of having their own business?
MC: I say stick with it.  For several years I personally poured all of myself into my kids and forgot to pour a little of myself into me.  Over the years I have learned if I pour all that I am into my kids without maintaining my likes and interests, that once the kids are gone I could be left behind trying to figure out, “who am I?”   Obviously, meeting the needs of your children will be first but I think as women sometimes it’s easy for us to feel a sense of guilt if we pursue a career or a hobby outside of raising our children.  I say, managing both is possible but knowing what the first priority is should always stay at the forefront.  Why not teach our children the right way of juggling both career and family?

MCbJ: What do you love about your job?
MC: I love my job…merchandising/fashion has always been a part of my life. I get to help with styling so many different women and in return, their style inspire me. Showing women that by throwing on a really cute cuff bracelet and a simple pair of studs with jeans and a t-shirt works…even if you are just going to the market. Seeing a picture from a client wearing her new earrings while wearing yoga pants and driving children around is priceless. For her, at that moment, she felt amazing.

MCbJ: How would you describe your own personal style?
MC: I am probably best described as a Jackie O style with a hint of bohemian.  I am happy wearing pearls and stilettos, while on the other hand, I also love sandals with long skirts and oversized tops.  I love to wear nature-inspired jewelry made to look like branches with birds on them because I am obsessed with birds, brass and bling.  Chloe + Isabel offer so many of these types of pieces, which really just add to my obsession.   My idea of style is wearing something that enhances your beauty while allowing you to stay true to who you are.

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
