Today for Mom Crush Monday I am excited to introduce you to Ali Grosslight of California Home + Design. Her eye for beauty and talent have made this publication a must have for home design and decor inspiration. And it is with this same passion she approaches motherhood and her time with her two adorable little girls. Although not always easy to find balance between work and home she has found that by separating the two she is more present and better at whatever that task of the moment happens to be. MCbJ: Tell us about your role for California Home + Design.
AG: I am the owner and publisher of California Home+Design .
MCbJ: Where do you find inspiration for your beautiful editorial spreads?
AG: We have an amazing editorial/brand director that has an incredible vision, and we are fortunate to be showcasing a state that has endless style. From mid-century modern, to luxury high-rises, the talent is tremendous.
MCbJ: You have 2 adorable children. Has it been difficult juggling work and being an available mom?
AG: The juggle is daily, but I believe I am better at both roles by making time to do each independently… Yes, there are days with a laptop and Frozen on, but I do my best to keep work time and mommy time separate.
MCbJ: Since becoming a mom, how have you changed personally and professionally?
AG: Everyone changes a bit, but I believe it’s all for the better. Motherhood is a humbling experience, and you begin to appreciate the smallest things in life that you had never really thought of before.
MCbJ: What advice do you have for new moms with dreams of having their own business?
AG: Give yourself time to be a mom first…it is truly is a full time job, but the most rewarding. Be sure to have separate time and space, so you can embrace each role fully while you are in it, as you will be much more successful and productive in each.
MCbJ: What do you love about your job?
AG: I love working with an amazing industry of talent, from designers to architects, builders to artists, we are surrounded by incredible people and projects each day. Internally, we have built a wonderful team of almost all working-moms, which is a great balance for all of us to support one another, while understanding and appreciating the daily juggle of mommy and work life… and making it all happen.
MCbJ: How would you describe your own personal style- in clothing and your home?
AG: Casual and classic. For both personal and home, invest in pieces that will last years, not a season, and sprinkle in the trendy items as you go.
