Style Spotlight: Pink Chicken New York owner Stacey Fraser

Before I had stepped into one of Pink Chicken New York‘s darling boutiques, I was already a fan based on previous purchases from select retailers around the United States. So, when I saw they had a store nearby my home in Santa Monica, I was thrilled! I soon popped in to see what was coming for spring/summer and I fell in love. As you can see by the adorable flamingo number (sun hat available here) that my little girl is wearing, I did not leave empty handed.

Not only was I smitten with this sweet piece and many others for our little loves, but also the easy breezy dresses and cover-ups for mom too. Their items are too perfect for anyone that lives near the beach (like many of us Southern California gals), or for anyone looking to be comfortable and chic as the weather heats up.

As I left the store that day I knew we had to do a style feature so I could share this fabulous clothing line with you all! Now here we are a few weeks later with not only some of the gorgeous items available now, but also an inspirational interview with founder/creator Stacey Fraser. PLUS, they have given the MCbJ readers their own discount code so that you can score 10% off now through March 24th. Just enter ‘mommychic‘ at checkout and before you know it you will be lounging with your little princess in the perfect summer dress. xx

MCbJ: When did you start Pink Chicken and what was your inspiration behind the line?

SF: I started Pink Chicken after my second daughter was born.  I was working in corporate design at the time and decided not to go back.  I started by making them dresses out of the vintage and ethnic fabrics I had collected over the years!   The fabric and color has always been the inspiration for me!

MCbJ: What were the first items (or item) that you created? How has that influenced future designs?

SF: We were spending time in Amagansett at the time so I made things for them that were easy, comfortable and stylish that they could wear on beach and off to lunch!

MCbJ: You have 2 children, ages 9 and 13. Has it been difficult juggling your business and being an available mom?

SF: The balance for all working moms is always a struggle but even before I was on a plane every other month and working long hours.   Now I work long hours and it does seem to consume me mentally 24/7, but when I need to be at a basketball game or a dance recital, I am there.   My girls also love the business . . . they love coming to the office after school and hanging out and telling me what they like (and don’t like). 🙂

MCbJ: What advice do you have for new moms with dreams of having their own business?

SF: I would say if you are passionate about it, do it!  Passion is what keeps you going during the highs and lows and there are lots of them.  And surround yourself with amazing supportive people.   I couldn’t do this without our incredible team.  Also ask for help – people genuinely want to help.   When I started, my friend Keith did our graphic design for us, my friend Ken shot our looks, etc.

MCbJ: Anything new in the works we should know about?

SF: Well, we just launched 18” doll clothing so your daughter can match her favorite doll.  And swim suits! Now we have swim suits to match our dresses/cover ups!   A few exciting collaborations down the road… we will let you know about it soon!

MCbJ: How would you describe your own personal style?

SF: You will always find me in a dress, even in the dead of NY winter, with leggings/tights and boots.  I wear mostly our womens collection.  I am always in something colorful and printed.

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
