Site Chic Week: Crafts & Activities

Sometimes we feel that there is nothing more therapeutic than reorganizing the closet or spending some time making a simple DIY project for the home. Now, we know that you barely have 5 minutes to brush your hair and put on makeup with all the screaming and whining but carve out some much-needed time for yourself this weekend even if it’s as little as 30 minutes. If you’re in the mood to channel your inner Martha Stewart this weekend, here are our favorite blogs to help you get started.

Elsie and Emma, the sisters behind A Beautiful Mess, is “focused on creating happiness every day through a homemade lifestyle.” You can find a variety of DIY projects for home and fashion; and get recipes and tips on beauty and home decor.  We’re planning on visiting our local nursery to pick up some cactus plants and succulents to make this easy 20-minute planter.

Some of you may already be familiar with this site especially if you are a bride-to-be or just recently became a Mrs. Style Me Pretty is a wedding resource and inspiration, filled with gorgeous photos and tips to get you ready for the big day. For those of you who might be asking why we are talking about this site when the last thing on your mind is wedding preparations, hear us out; we love their DIY ideas! Check out this cute floor poufs that you can make with a rug from IKEA and a sewing machine. Haven’t been near a sewing machine for years or ever? There’s a DIY no-sew dog bed you can make for your Fido.  I think it’s time for us to take out the Brother sewing machine…hopefully our poufs will turn out just as good as the ones in the image above.  Wish us luck!

We’re warning you ahead of time that this blog will make you want to spend hours and hours working on all their DIY projects. Remember when friendship bracelets were a trend and huge part of the “arm party?” Well, we were able to make 10 of those a day, all thanks to Honestly WTF.  Now that the once-loved friendship bracelets have come and gone we’re left with lots of embroidery floss.  So this weekend, we’re planning on making this ah-mazing tassel tote that will have everyone asking, “where did you get that?”  Perfect timing since today marks the first day of summer.

Now if you need to distract the kiddos while you’re working on these fab DIY projects, visit Fun Brain and PBS Kids so they can play fun and interactive learning games to entertain them.  We can’t promise a long attention span but at least these sites for kids will help you get started on a project or anything to relieve a bit of that stress and recharge your battery for the week ahead.  Happy weekend.  xx

Philanthropy

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
