Baby on Board Chic Week: Je Ne Sais Quoi

Chances are getting dressed up while pregnant is not your favorite thing to do… Especially if you are in your 1st or 3rd trimester. However, it can be done, and done well.

When dressing a pregger client or myself for a special event the size of your belly and the shape you are in determine what you will be wearing.

In the beginning I definitely recommend something that is flowy and does not hug you around your belly. After all, you likely feel bloated and “very pregnant”, but realize all you look is slightly bloated.

On top of this you may still be keeping the pregnancy a secret. This was always tough for me to hold in when at a party. My vanity would get the best of me and I would feel the need to justify why I was “no fun and bloated”. The no fun thing can’t really be helped when all you feel like doing is sleeping, but the bloated thing can be made a little better by the way you dress.

Now, second trimester is tricky. Depending on the month and which number pregnancy it is your belly may or may not be showing. I remember being 5 months in first pregnancy and so badly wanting people to notice my growing belly, but it just wasn’t there quite yet. However, in my next two it sure was. So when picking out a dress in tri 2 unless it is truly obvious that you are pregnant and not just been eating to many cheeseburgers than stick with a flowy dress. Yet, if it is clear you are pregnant pick a dress that shows off that growing belly.

Third trimester is all about rocking that belly hugging dress. Pregnancy is beautiful and this is the time to show it.

About a year and half ago I had the pleasure of dressing one of my favorite clients for two special events she would attend at 33 weeks pregnant. It was challenging to find exactly the right dresses to both flatter and accentuate her belly, but mission was accomplished. She looked gorgeous. So the moral of this story is the right look is out there. So flaunt your best accessory and have fun with it. xx

Because it is always chic to give.  As moms we are always giving and most of the time it is not even appreciated until our children are much older (let's hope!) So it may seem challenging to give to anyone else, but we should all try no matter how little the amount or the time. Thinking outside of ourselves is good for our hearts and those of our children.
