Okay so far we have talked about what to wear when you have a “Baby on Board” and when your “Baby {is} in Bassinet”, but now let’s talk looking chic when your “Toddler is in a Twin” … bed that is. Or maybe your toddler is still in a crib (and I recommend sticking with this as long as possible), but that just didn’t have the same ring to it. “Toddler in Crib” ?? Nah, let’s stick with the alliteration.
So, here you are constantly on the move because your little love is in what I like to call the “danger watch” phase. This is the time when they think climbing to the top of any high object without a clue of how to get down other than to take head dive towards the ground seems like a good idea. And then when you do rush in to save your darling from injury it is usually met with tears of frustration… so much for a “thank you for saving me” hug. Or, then there is that old piece of food, little Lego or any small possible choking object that you didn’t even see under your couch that is naturally discovered by your toddler and must of course go in the mouth leading you to full panic followed by a finger sweep. Yep, this is toddlerhood. It is a dirty and often scary time, but it also so much fun!
Their excitement for the world and discovering every little thing about it is contagious. I have found myself ecstatic to see a trash truck go by, or willingly collect snails just because it makes my little boys smile. And this is saying something for this “girly’’ mom! I did finally get my girl and she does indeed get more excited about “birdies” than tractors, but she still knows how to get really, really dirty. What is it about that one muddy spot out of a field full of dry ones that always seems to call their names? We may never know the appeal, but we do know how to dress for such an occasion.
When it comes to toddlerhood just expect to get dirty too, especially if you are crawling around on the ground, going down slides and digging in the sand. Clearly, a play date at the park is not the time to debut your new “it” look. And even if you don’t consider yourself a “park person” (I don’t!) you will inevitably be spending time there since you can only watch your little darling take apart your home for half of the day. Not to mention I do it for my kids who just love when mom (or dad) play with them at the park, or anywhere for that matter.
But does this mean throw on some old sweat pants and a ratty t-shirt as though you are getting ready to paint the house? No no… We can still look mommy chic, but at the same time be in clothing that is priced for kid time and comfy enough for a ride down a slide.
